I've honestly never done ASCII art before, so this is the first time I've ever done this. I finished sketching a Crypto ASCII so you can see it. You may notice that I used the Arial font for this, even though it's probably easier to do it in Courier New. This is because I go on GameFAQs quite a bit, and ASCII art is fairly popular there. And GameFAQs uses Arial, so it only makes sense.
Here it is so far:

How is it so far? One thing I need to work on is fixing up the contours -- some lines are darker than others. I also need to do some shading as well. But tell me what you think!

Yeah, I did. It took me over two hours too. What I did was take one of the pics from the official Telefang site and pasted it into Microsoft Word, and then made the image go behind the text (by right-clicking on the image, clicking on "Format Picture...", clicking on the "Layout" tab, then selecting "Behind text"). Then I brightened the image so that I could see the ASCII. Then I set the font to Arial and put text above it so I could see the picture while I was doing it.
And THANKS! I still need to add the appropriate shading, though...
EDIT: Done! Just look at the bottom part of the page.

Ok so that IS pretty awesome.
You should try it with a monosized font sometime.

Can you do the shaded one without the dotted background?

Sanky: Thanks! Yeah, I should try it with a monosized font. It's probably easier that way... not to mention it looks cool...
andwhyisit: Yeah, I can. The only reason I did that is so I can post it on GameFAQs, where you can't post consecutive spaces due to the way HTML works.

Aren't there ASCII generators out there?
Can't say no if you want to do it though; it looks pretty cool.
I'll be saying about the dotted one;
The lines where the pupil is look...weird and unpupil-ish.
The tail looks way jagged.
The foot is pretty unclear.
Then again I dunno how to do ASCII, yea.
