What is ShoddyBattle?
Image
It's extra manly.
ShoddyBattle is a popular Pokemon battle simulator often used in competitive battling. It's used to make all manner of teams and then play with anyone in the world. You get a lot of people who talk tiers and such on here, but that's not so bad since you don't have to spend days killing Digletts for 252 Speed EVs anymore.

To get started, you can get it here. It's a dinky little Java applet, so just save it to your desktop or some such.

Starting up, you'll see the Server list.

Yeah, there's a lot of 'em.
I chill on Smogon under the name LouisCyphre (wut?), but a lot of other servers exist for your enjoyment.

It's a me.
You can also hit up the build-in chat channel for battles with randoms.

Umm... Er...
...Okay, maybe you'll just stick to Villagers, which is fine. So long as I can hit someone up with my Clefables. Down for a match?

I'm still making a team (find it a bit difficult to be honest, so many choises), but I'll definitely want to fight you when I'm done, 'kay?

Might take a while, though.

Well, who are you trying to build around? There's a lot of clutter to cut through, as has been said in the GenV topics.

Please don't say Luvdisc.

It's just that I don't have much experience with this kind of thing... I first heard of shoddybattle 2 weeks ago, and before that, the only pokemon I thoughtfully ev-trained was a Zigzagoon... I'm still a bit of a n00b when it comes to competitive battling... eheh.

Luvdisc.

Try Blissey, Skarmory, Metagross, Gyarados, Salamence, and Swampert. It's a well-mixed team for offense with Blissey to support with Wish or Aromatherapy.

(Btw here's a list of the things Luvdisc can stand a chance against: )

I'm trying to make my SS team a bit decent, but it's mostly UU/NU... What should I do with Golem?

Rock Polish and 252 Speed EVs can make him haul ass decently enough to be a Physical sweeper if you're in the market for one - set him up with Earthquake and Stone Edge for STAB attacks. With that doubled Speed you'll be able to go out with a bang with Jihad Explosion, hopefully after he's scored a kill or two. Life Orb gives him +30% to all of his damage, which is never a horrible thing to have.

If you want a Defensive wall, stick with Earthquake and Stone Edge and bring in some Rest and Sleep Talk. Leftovers can keep you healthy enough while getting ready to wake up, but Life Orb can turn his STAB attacks into intense pain and he can afford the recoil damage it brings with the introduction of Rest.

Finally, Golem can be a hardcore revenge killer with Choice Band. Earthquake/Stone Edge/Double-Edge/Explosion and the +50% physical damage from C. Band will leave a huge dent in anything Golem comes into contact with. C-Banded Explosion is pretty much a guaranteed kill on anything up to UU that isn't named Aggron, and Aggron succumbs beautifully to Earthquake. Just be sure not to get locked into EQ on a Flying or Levitating switch-in.
...That's probably a bit more extensive than you expected :u

I think I'm going for the revenge killer, with evs in defense and sp.defense so he lasts longer, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea?

I thought a revenge killer would be a pokemon with counterattacks, such as... revenge?

Revenge killer needs to actually be able to kill, and needs to be able to leave a nasty dent on a switch-in in case the opponent knows what you're up to. Attack and Speed are what I'd go for - you're not trying to wall anything, you're trying to abuse Golem's better-than-decent STAB typing and movepool.
UDD: Revenge killers are meant to switch in after one of your Pokes are killed, and kills the killer in return.
