Haha, that's because BTXJ is what it says on the japanese cartridge. XD Someone screwed up.

Yeah though, I'm for leaving the code alone, just on principle. *nod* I don't think we're changing enough stuff to call it a new game, maybe that's just me... >__>

Couldn't you just compare a chunk of text to see which version it is? D: Something we've translated that isn't going to change, like battle text...

Really? Somebody screwed up on the actual cart sticker?

You would have thought they would have double checked it

Anyway why would the bootleggers then change the internal code to match the error on the japanese cart. It's all crazy to me.

Anyway, I simply suggested this, as when a game is translated, (like what we're doing) the first 3 letters of the code stay the same, but the last letter changes depending on the region.

Eg.

AAUJ - Pokémon Gold Japanese
AAUE - Pokémon Gold English
AAUD - Pokémon Gold German
AAUS - Pokémon Gold Spainsh

Whatever though it doesn't really matter. It just makes makes sense to me I guess.

Seeing as we are translating the game as if it were released in English...

Never mind

Actually, about the BXTJ and BTXJ problem, we figured out that one of them is the special antenna edition, while the other one isn't. Reasons are in Blaziken's topic about his Power, if I recall correctly.

Really? I have never heard of that. What's the difference in the game?

There's none. As far as we know.
The special antenna was released in the first limited editions of the game. It was an external add-on that would blink if someone called you ingame.

The Power rom everyone has is XTJ: not the "power limited" version, while the one Blaziken have has TXJ on box cover, and was bundled with the antenna. And the bootleggers hacked the limited version, too.

They should be able to. I'll test it later rather than have us all speculate.

IIRC, battery saves are easily transferable, and since VBA can import battery saves easily, this isn't an issue. And yes, you can import a Diamond save into Power, and it'll work (except the nicknames will be messed up due to different character tables). This is weird, because it won't even load on Diamond (or it'll freeze up on VBA). Save states are the issue, not battery saves (which makes it difficult to get a save from Power onto Diamond).

The editor would need a "bootleg vs limited edition power" check though.

Aaah, that's all just theory though... I'm still pretty certain both the limited and non-limited editions of power come with the same cartridge. D: It makes more sense that the code on the cartridge (BTXJ) is correct and they just typo'd it in the rom, since all pictures of the cartridges I've seen have had the same codes as the limited ones. *shrug* I couldn't find any pictures of definitely non-limited cartridges to confirm it right now, but I really think we should assume it's the same until proven otherwise...

(Though I did find this picture just now, on an auction site. XD It's blurry but it looks a lot like the Crypto figurine from the last page of the player's guide. XD It attaches to the antenna! So random. XD)
.../off topic

I honestly think we should go under the assumption that the limited and normal versions have different internal codes until proven otherwise. It makes more sense and will help avoid any editor incompatibility with any future dumps.
