Well, another option would be just making sure to rename whatever you trade, since it always gives you the option to... XD Though I don't think trade compatibility with the japanese versions is 100% necessary if it causes problems, since I don't think that many people will be playing both once a proper english version is available... *shrug*

Wanting to trade from (Japanese) Speed to (English) Power is the main problem with trade nicknames at the moment... Whenever that stops being an issue depends how long it takes to make a Speed patch after the Power one is done. All the translation and stuff will already be done but coding and graphic changes will have to be reinserted too :<

Though, when I traded a Tsunonasu over, it had a name consisting of random letter pairs, maybe those could be fixed so that anything with a Japanese name gets Romanized?

No that's wrong. Non-default names will stay in English, except it will be using the Japanese version's character set. So "A" (3A) would convert to "A" (D0). By god I am not converting english nicknames to katakana in assembly, that's insane.

Oh, okay. XD
That makes a lot more sense. But does that mean an English-version Denjuu's name would get converted to all caps, or do the Japanese versions actually have lowercase in there somewhere?

When I tried trading a Punica over to Japanese Speed, it got a random six-character name in hiragana (there are no latin characters at all in the original games, aside from I think... Z and D?)

That's incorrect as well. The Japanese game's character set has the following latin characters:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ?!0123456789./-<>:;~

The English character codes however are completely different between the patch and the Japanese original, so while character 0x50 is "P" in the patch it is a Japanese character in the original game. The code for "P" in the Japanese original is 0xAD, which is a blank tile in the patch. This is why we need character conversion between the two.

Yep. All caps.

Just a look at what the conversion tables would look like. 000 to 0FF is patch to original, 100-1FF is original to patch.

I haven't had time to check this forum much lately, so I'll just say a few quick things.

Yeah, even though you can't use Latin characters to nickname Denjuu (unlike in Telefang 2), they are all present. (Otherwise how else would the "THANK YOU FOR YOUR PLAYING!" message exist?)

And how would we go about applying the table? Is it something that is going to be programmed in the game or something that has to be done manually?

Finally... I hope that the conversion table is 100% accurate so that there won't be glitches like this:
Spoiler!

Haha, wow. That is shameful.

Also I really did not know the full alphabet was in T1 =S I wonder why, when they barely used it..?

It doesn't surprise me, really, considering that there was a full alphabet in Bugsite too and Telefang 2 actually does let you use the English letters. Of course, Bugsite is a lot more English-obsessed than Telefang to begin with.

(On a funny little sidenote, my Oshe got named "ネジぉぃ" when I traded it, which I thought was a totally awesome name if not exactly what was intended. I'm so going to name the next one I get for mod evolution Nejioi just for the sheer hilarity of it.)
