When there is a ROM of Telefang containing the translated text, I hope you don't mind me making a video about it on YouTube, so I can show everybody else it ;) Of course, I would give you credit anyway :P
Telefang is undeservingly one of the most under-appreciated games out there. I doubt you need to ask permission since everyone here would support the idea. But it is good of you to ask anyway.

There is a patch right now, it's located in this post:

And go ahead and make the video. It would help a LOT. XD

Under-appreciated? Never knew that... and I guess it'd be called that because people think it's a "rip-off of Pokemon"...

I could do that now but unfortunately I can't, because I've not sound on my computer (the sound driver was lost when it got reformatted two days ago) <_< But when I get it back, that's when I'll show everyone it :)

Oh. That's too bad. Hopefully you'll get it fixed soon... :)

Anyway, has anybody worked on this patch since v8? If not, I'll throw in a few changes I've been meaning to make and update it...

I have v9 up now... here are the changes/additions:

- I translated Crypto's picture book entry. I had to scrunch it down so that it fits two lines (and each line has a limit of 14 characters). Unfortunately, we will have to do this a LOT!
- Changed "___ used ___!" to "___'s move! ___!" There weren't any issues with text wrapping here.
- I revamped the phone button graphics to the Game Boy Color. In case anybody liked the old ones better, I moved THOSE to the Game Boy ones for now. I also added Speed buttons (they're unused in Power, but you can copy and paste the tiles onto Speed if anybody wants to start a translation there...)
- I added "You received ___ mail messages." There were different lines of text for each number (1-4), so there weren't any singular/plural issues.
- I could have sworn that I added the "NO SIGNAL" icon on the bottom left, but somehow the one I wanted to scrap ended up in there. The NO SIGNAL one should be in there now.
- I also could have sworn that I fixed the chopped off 0 on the phone, but for some reason, it didn't save. It's fixed now.
- I added "I tell you my phone number!" because I got tired of looking at the garbled text, though since I just took it from Diamond, it's probably inaccurate.

Here's the patch:

What about:
Here's my phone
number!

"I tell you my phone number!" seems accurate in meaning, just comes across engrishy with the "I" instead of "I'll".

I'll check out your patch tonight.

So, I see that we lost interest in this patch... if we stop now, we'll never get it done!

I'm curious to what the super-effective/not very effective messages really say, as well as the status effects and the stat changes (like Attack).

The "super effective!" lines have been bugging me... When I tried translating them, I got "Against a stronger opponant, extra damage!!" for super effective, and "Against a weaker opponent, lower damage!!" for not very effective, which is backwards, and wrong. ): Either I'm missing some part of the grammar or the word for "opponent" is supposed to be something else... I checked it bunch of times, but I still don't know. ;_;

Either way, with our text limit,
"Good match-up!
Extra damage!!"
and
"Poor match-up!
Lower damage!!"
...or something similar would work fine. D: Or, of course, Pokemon's super effective blah blah... *nod*

I think "Here's my phone number!" works fine, and for the mail thing, I think "You received __ messages." or "You received __ text messages." would sound more normal...XD As for the stats and status stuff, I'll have to go look. XD

Edit:
Alright, I just checked out the patch and tried to fill in the battle text we're missing... The name input buttons look awesome, seriously. D:

- At the first screen of a battle, choosing flee says "Ran away!" if it works, and "Ran away! (new box) ...But couldn't escape!" if it fails.
- Choosing fight when you have nobody to call says "Couldn't call anyone!" on the Denjuu select screen.
- If a damaging attack misses, it says "Attack missed!"
- If a status-up/etc. move doesn't work, it says "Failure!!"
- When a Denjuu with an irritable personality attacks without orders, it says "___ attacked on its own!"
- For stat-ups, it says "___'s attack power went up!", and "defense went up" for defense, and evasion for evasion... Those are all I checked...XD
- For Keshi's smoke screen attack, it says "___ was shrouded in smoke!", and the status name at the top is "smoke".
- When you choose to flee in battle, it says "Ran away!" if it works, and "Couldn't run away!" if it fails.
- When an enemy Denjuu runs away, they say "I'm no match for this guy!" followed by "___ fled!"
- When your Denjuu levels up, it says "___ levelled up!"...
- I got the whole text for when a Denjuu gives you their number, but you can change it however you want... *nod*
"Wow, you're strong! Here's my phone number."
"Got ___'s phone number" (shows)
"Save it? yes/no"
(if yes) "___'s number was saved!" -> "Give it a nickname? yes/no" -> end.
(if no) "The number wasn't saved!" -> end.

...That's all I have for now. D: Was there anything else we're missing...? I might do the villagers' text around Toronko village next...*nod* This patch is actually really cool so far...;_;
The only nitpick I have at the moment is that on the name input screen, you have lowercase set to katakana and caps set to hiragana, and I would put it the other way round... Because katakana is the first set of letters it gives you when you reach the naming screen, and caps are used for the first letter of any name, if not all of it. D: It'd be kinda annoying to change at this point, but just saying...
..That, and we should find something to put next to the number of money you have, where it said "chiru". D: If it's limited to 2 letters, we could try putting "Ch." with a funky "h." letter. *nod*

Well, I'll get to work and translate all those things. Just a few things, though:

A lot of the different lines have no character limit. This is an advantage to using pointers. You can make the text as long or as short as you want (just as long as you have enough space in the ROM for it). For example, the super-effective text says this in Diamond/Jade:

For the clever
opponent,
Injure
increase!!

You don't see any problems with THAT, do you?

Of course, whenever you have to select something, THEN you're limited to two lines, like when you're asked if you want to nickname a Denjuu or not. But stuff like super-effective text won't have a problem...

Also, status effects have a limit of four characters -- I tested this. The bootleggers obviously didn't realize this when editing the status effects, which is why some status effects are blank in the bootleg, and others have weird names like "!". Smoke is five letters, which won't fit. And "Smok" looks silly. Maybe "fog" or "haze" would be better?

For stats, is evasion what the bootleg calls "parry"? I wonder where they got the word "parry" from anyway... maybe they confused it with this? Image

Sorry, wrong game (and a dumb joke)... anyway, are there any moves that raise Denma Attack and Defense? Is this what the we should call it?

One thing you're missing is when selecting the Denjuu. I added my own interpretation, which is like this:

Call _ Denjuu!
SELECT: Status

Also, what does the "It's OK" thing say (when you select your Denjuu)? It sounds a bit awkward...

Oh, and I noticed the lowercase-number-uppercase thing too. I found it weird at first, but now I'm used to it. I guess I could change it... it doesn't take that long... just a matter of switching the uppercase/lowercase tiles and switching the uppercase/lowercase entries.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment on the new buttons! XD

Finally, the tiles for the Chiru thing are only used for the Chiru. Changing the tiles only affects that one thing, so you can change it without worrying about it too much.
