This is totally unrelated, but I run myself a
Pokémon Showdown server. I ran it so we could play with a friend while the official one was down. It's mostly empty but there's no reason to shut it down, and it also has a new Gen 1 challenge cup mode, so if you and a friend ever had this compelling feeling to try it out, there's your chance.

lol I never did competitive pokémon, we just did a few random battles (or challenge cup) with a friend.. Don't bother going to my server unless there's somebody else who'll come along, it's always empty.
