I've tried alot of times to make a translation of Power.
I failed every time.
Has anyone succeed making one?

I am in the process of making a menu translation for power:

If you are stuck with the hacking side of it and can actually translate Japanese then I can always give you the japanese text to translate so a full translation patch can be made.

Perhaps I could help in translating the Japanese ^^
I don't want to brag about my ability to read Jap, but if I can help, I will want to.

Alright I can't do anything tonight but I will start extracting japanese text from the power rom tomorrow night.
Oh and thanks.

This is Telefang, not Pokemon
We're working on it.

Actually, we're making many hacks and alterations to the game, both the Japanese version and the bootleg. (ie, both fixing the bootleg's engrish and translating the original version from scratch.) But I'm sure anything you do to help is great. ^^

Ugh. Why are Japanese characters such a pain, surely there has to be an easier way than this. Does anyone know of an easier way to grab the japanese text from the rom? The problem is that there are special variables in the hex code that I don't want to convert, also I know the hex values for all of the different japanese characters but I cannot do a mass conversion while my text file is ascii and japanese characters require unicode. Is there a program that has a character conversion table function for unicode characters?
My brain hurts...

Ow... seems hard
I don't know much about ROM hacking... sorry can't help there...
Perhaps you could ask Blaziken. He's quite experienced.

But hey!
If i only get the translations of the japanese text I can do romhacking!
I have a little skills with it.
I've tried to translate power before
The only problem was the japanese :/
This is what I need:
The whole japanese text
I have to know which text belongs to where.
That way, I can search for the text in a hex editor
I can hack fonts as well
There's no reason why we should fix the engrish in diamond instead.
There's way too many glitches. Besides, the rom is messed up.

If anyone is going to do a translation can you use my menu patch for the Japanese power version as a starting point:
http://www.mediafire.com/?4yflnptly8y
I have already hacked the fonts, denjuu names, attack names, and name entry.
The following characters (including space) have the same ascii values as my new fonts for the game:
Code: Select all
!"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~
That means you can directly type out any of these characters in the hex editor and get that character in the game, look at the characters at 1D46F8 (the attack names) to get an idea of what I am talking about.
The pointer table for the text starts at the address 114000, the text for that pointer table starts at 1141A0 and the next pointer table seems to start at 11507B if that helps.
Hex combinations such as E5 60 D4, E5 B1 D4 and E5 48 D4 are variables representing Denjuu names, point values, etc. E5 E1 C9 might be one too but I can't be sure.
E1 04 and E1 05 signify the end of that text, not sure why they are different.
E2 is a new line within that text.
E0 is basically a character that does not show in the game, it is useful for filling unused space in the hex.
That is all I have for now.
