Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
I see, I see. XD I still think we should try to keep battle text short, though.
I'm actually not at all familiar with what the bootleg uses, but evasion is what Kochia's second attack (evade/avoidanc) increases. *nod*
When you're calling Denjuu to battle, it says "Call up to __ Denjuu, Select: Status" and when you pick them it asks "Is this okay? yes/no", or whatever. *nod*
For status effects, we could always do what pokemon did and cut all of the vowels out. XD like "Smk (smoke), Brn (burn), Frst (frostbite), Psn (poison)... There's also hidden, confused, "uneasy", and a couple others... I don't know them all. XD They aren't listed in the player's guide, even on the attack list. :/

Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
"Call up _ Denjuu, Select: Status" is one that does have a limit, otherwise you have to press A to see the entire thing. However, pressing A also selects a Denjuu, so if you can only call one Denjuu, you can never see the entire text. Just play Diamond and you'll see what I mean.
I just figured out that "___ attacked on its own!" also needs to fit in two lines too. The attack starts as soon as the first couple of lines show up, and you have to press A quick to see the entire thing or else it disappears quickly. I can't seem to fit it onto two lines, though. This is the best I came up with:
[Denjuu] at-
tacked on its
own!
As you can see, that's three lines. There has to be a way to shorten that...
And I guess your method works for the status effects...
Finally, what does the text say when you're battling a T-Fanger with multiple Denjuu, and you're trying to attack one of them? The bootleg says "Which e-monster would you like to attack?", but this doesn't fit into two lines... the "to attack?" part gets cut off, so the only thing you can see is "Which e-monster would you like". And if you try to press A here, it selects the Denjuu and makes the text disappear, so you can never see the third line. Would "Attack which Denjuu?" work instead?

Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
Hmm... Since it doesn't actually say Denjuu, would "Call up to __, Select: status" work?
For "attacked on its own", I really can't think of anything at the moment, besides just "__ attacked!" and having it be obvious that it did it on its own. >_> I'd prefer to put something though, because Crypto always has the personality for it and attacks on his own pretty much 1/3 of the time... :/
For the T-fanger battles, maybe it could say "To which Denjuu?"? That sounds normal to me, but I might just be weird. D:

Wouldn't be all that hard switching the values around, but the tile switching would be time consuming.Kimbles wrote:...That's all I have for now. D: Was there anything else we're missing...? The only nitpick I have at the moment is that on the name input screen, you have lowercase set to katakana and caps set to hiragana, and I would put it the other way round... Because katakana is the first set of letters it gives you when you reach the naming screen, and caps are used for the first letter of any name, if not all of it. D: It'd be kinda annoying to change at this point, but just saying...
I already put something there to represent Chiru.Kimbles wrote:..That, and we should find something to put next to the number of money you have, where it said "chiru". D: If it's limited to 2 letters, we could try putting "Ch." with a funky "h." letter. *nod*

Iif you somehow press and hold A from the previous screen or somehow you can still show it without selecting the Denjuu. Not sure though, I just got it a few times. >_>

That one will work.andwhyisit wrote:Too long.Kimbles wrote:- When a Denjuu with an irritable personality attacks without orders, it says "___ attacked on its own!"

That one doesn't need shortening, it works fine with multiple lines.andwhyisit wrote:"Smoke encasedKimbles wrote:- For Keshi's smoke screen attack, it says "___ was shrouded in smoke!", and the status name at the top is "smoke".

This one doesn't need shortening either. When getting a phone number, the only things that need shortening are Yes/No questions.andwhyisit wrote:"The number was saved!"?Kimbles wrote:(if yes) "___'s number was saved!" -> "Give it a nickname? yes/no" -> end.

It's easy with Tile Layer Pro because you can cut and paste tiles around by dragging the right mouse button and hitting Ctrl+C. I'll take care of this, then you can change the letters themselves.andwhyisit wrote:Wouldn't be all that hard switching the values around, but the tile switching would be time consuming.Kimbles wrote:...That's all I have for now. I remember doing that once by accident... I could never do it again though. In any case, the text now fits onto two lines, so you don't have to worry about that.Milnivri wrote:Oh, that. ---------------------
By the way, I came across a weird issue when trying to put in the "Ran away!" text during battle. It's grouped with the Fight/Flee options, as well as the "arrived!" text. The problem here is all four of these things have 8-character limits, like Denjuu or attacks or items (or a lot of the things in Telefang 2). And "Ran away!" doesn't fit in 8 lines, so I just put in "Escaped!" instead. In case any of you are wondering, this stuff is located in $01450D-$01452C. And there doesn't seem to be a pointer table for it, so I'm stuck doing this. Also, the "Couldn't run away!" text does NOT have this issue; it's grouped with all the other battle text.
EDIT: I now have the patch up. It involves all the changes we talked about, plus more:
- I added in Toronko Village and Kurinon Village as map locations; check them out.
- I switched the lowercase and uppercase buttons, but I haven't gotten around to changing the entries yet.
- I copied all the Denjuu Arrive/Denjuu Attack phrases from the Diamond ROM, because I got sick of seeing garbled text every time a Denjuu arrives or attacks. I know this isn't the best translation, but at least it's better than seeing garbled text. Someone ought to translate all 174 attack and all 174 arrive phrases...
- I added "___ arrived!" when a Denjuu arrives.
- I added the Smoke status effect. I decided to call it "Fog" for now.
- I added "Are you sure?" when you selected your Denjuu. Not sure this translation is perfect, though.
- I added "Go! _____!" when fighting a T-Fanger.
The patch is here:

...Oh. ^^; I thought it was just scrambled tiles... I'm sorry... >__>andwhyisit wrote:I already put something there to represent Chiru.
I looked at the new patch. XD "Struck out on its own" actually works pretty well. XD But I wish you hadn't added the super effective lines yet, because I know that's an incorrect translation. ):
As for attack and arrive text, I could try that, but I would need a save file for the game with all of the Denjuu handy...D: That would actually help a lot for attacks and battle text, too, since all of my progress is on cartridge...*nod*
Other stuff, using "Fog" as the status effect right after saying smoke in the text is weird...also, the bottom line of the g touches the top line of the Denjuu name, but I dunno how that'd be fixed. :/ I also kind of want to use something besides "Are you sure?", because the original line was more "Is this correct?", which has a less direct tone, or something... D: I dunno.
I think the "Go! ____!" line is correct, but I can't check it right now. *nod* It should be fine.

I guess he means that the wording is weird. I guess "encase" isn't the right word to use... Perhaps you could use:Blaziken257 wrote:That one doesn't need shortening, it works fine with multiple lines.andwhyisit wrote:"Smoke encasedKimbles wrote:- For Keshi's smoke screen attack, it says "___ was shrouded in smoke!", and the status name at the top is "smoke".

smoke!
Maybe? Since you said it works fine with multiple lines...

"Smoke covered
_____!"
...That one works fine...XD
Anyway, I've been thinking, we should really take a look at Pokemon TCG's font system on a ROM to see exactly how they did it. D: They have 2 letters per 8x8 tile, but somehow put it together without 2-letter tiles... If we could could copy the system they used there, we would have double the text space for Denjuu names, attack names, items, stats, status effects, and map locations. XD We could just steal their font. We could also try 2-letter tiles, but that would be messy and also impossible to type, unlike TCG's system. >_< Maybe it could still work for stats and status effects, though... I wish I could help, but I still know nothing of hex editing...*sigh*

Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
It would be easy to create such a font. Though it would be hard (impossible?) to change char limits and alter the font widths used by the rom (VWF) without knowing assembly. And two letters per tile requires 676 tiles, we don't have that many we can use.Kimbles wrote: Anyway, I've been thinking, we should really take a look at Pokemon TCG's font system on a ROM to see exactly how they did it.
