Bek still works fine
This of it as a whole Satoshi to Ash conversion.

Bek doesn't even make sense though. That's just the bootleg translation, because the pirate had absolutely no idea what (s)he was doing. By your logic, let's either call Pokémon "PET" or "ELF." And let's call Prof. Oak "Aochider." Hey, look! Aochider has three PET!

I think that this is everyone:Blaziken257 wrote:2. Hey, andwhyisit and I helped too! And RacieB helped with the attack/item translations (which andwhyisit put into the ROM)...
RacieB, DeKaFu and Milnivri - Some translation work and possibly other stuff.
Blaziken257 - Pointer-based text hacking plus rom mapping.
andwhyisit - Various non-pointer-based hacks and tile edits.
Kimbles - Translations and text dumping.
Probably not a good idea to announce it just yet.Blaziken257 wrote:Also, something I've been meaning to ask for a long time... do you think one of us should post this translation-in-progress to romhacking.net? Maybe it could get more people to know about it.
There is a "help wanted" section at romhacking.net (just not on the forums). I can submit a help wanted ad if you want.Blaziken257 wrote:And maybe it could get someone who knows how to decompress tiles (like the blasted tiles for the phone screen, for example) to help out (though I did notice you're not allowed to request people to do work for you on that site, which is stupid).
What we need the most:
- Decompression of title screen tiles.
- Decompression of menu font.
Optional:
- Smaller or more compact font for Denjuu names.
- Denjuu name character limit expanded to 12 characters.
- Expansion of preset name from "Shi" to "Shigeki".
Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
I just manually named him Shigeki while I was playing with the patch.. I think "Shi" is the best bet until a solution is found for the default name length. Bek is a bad choice because A) it's meaningless and apparently picked at random, and B) the bootleg puts Telefang in a pretty bad light so why use it as reference x_x?
EDIT-
EDIT-
Is that even possible with the space provided? It seems to have issues with 8-character names as it is..wrote:- Denjuu name character limit expanded to 12 characters.

VWF (8x6? 6x5? 8x5?) and repositioning the data elsewhere in the rom should do it.RacieB wrote: Is that even possible with the space provided? It seems to have issues with 8-character names as it is..

Speaking of the Denjuu name font, how does this look for some of the letter-pair tiles? I just felt like messing with them to see what I could come up with..

Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
If we are avoiding doing variable width fonts for sure for the time being, I am still all for using 2-letter combination tiles for items, attacks, status effects, and stats, assuming it will be possible to add more slots for letters at this point? D: We wouldn't need every combination either, just the ones that we end up using. It should be possible to fit each uppercase letter into 3 pixels width and have it still readable (I have seen it done), so I'd rather we use that than make a special case for each individual thing... *nod*
The issue I see with Denjuu names for that is that you won't be able to nickname Denjuu as long as their normal names, and if you erase a tile you won't be able to type it again, but I guess we have that problem right now anyway... ): Meh, I dunno.
By the way, I have the text for the credits for the game, so I'll try to get those done soon. XD Maybe we could add Tulunk Village to the special thanks...^^;

Re: (Incomplete) Telefang English Translation
The issue is that I am incredibly limited in the number of letter combinations that I can use, along with my inability to use lowercase characters with such a setup.Kimbles wrote:If we are avoiding doing variable width fonts for sure for the time being, I am still all for using 2-letter combination tiles for items, attacks, status effects, and stats, assuming it will be possible to add more slots for letters at this point? VWF and an increase in possible characters would be a solution to all naming issues. But Denjuu names are the most important.
Yay!Kimbles wrote:By the way, I have the text for the credits for the game, so I'll try to get those done soon. XD Maybe we could add Tulunk Village to the special thanks...^^;

Bek = Beck
Names just get changed........
Satoshi = Ash
Kasumi = Misty
Haruka = May
Hikari = Dawn
Shinji = Paul
And besides, people could name the protagonist what ever they want. Even no name.
