Dubai side or Sharjah side for a Mercedes gearbox check? Need a straight answer from people who know
I have been going back and forth on this for almost two weeks, so I thought I would just ask here instead of guessing. I drive a 2015 Mercedes GLK and the gearbox has started to feel rough in a way I cannot fully explain. It is not a big problem yet. Mostly it happens when I go from a slow crawl in traffic to speeding up again. The car hesitates for a second, then pushes forward with a small bump. Last Friday it also gave me a warning light for a short time and then it went off by itself, which honestly worried me more than the bump. I live near Al Qusais, so for me the easiest thing would be to find a place close by. Someone at the car wash told me there are some garages in that area that only work on Mercedes, and he said one of them is known for something like Exclusive Mercedes gearbox service in Al Qusais Industrial Area 5, but he could not remember the name. That made me curious, because I always thought gearbox work was something only the agency could do. Then I read a page about Mercedes gearboxes on a Sharjah website that explained things in a simple way, like what a mechatronic unit does and why old oil can cause hard shifting. It did not diagnose my car, but it gave me a few words to use when I talk to a mechanic, so I do not sound like I know nothing. My real question is about distance and trust. Is it worth driving to Sharjah for a good specialist, or is it smarter to stay close to home and pick a garage near me in Dubai? I worry that if something goes wrong after the repair, it will be a hassle to drive back and forth in traffic. At the same time, I would drive far if the work is honest and the price is fair. Also, how do you check a garage before you hand over the keys? Do you ask for a test drive with them, or ask for a scan report in writing? And has anyone here been told they needed a full gearbox replacement, then found out later it was a smaller fix? I would love to hear real stories, even the bad ones. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long message.
