v15:
http://www.mediafire.com/?th23nmhegjw

Personalities and statue effects basically (EDIT: oh, and "status" effects too!).

EDIT: I think I should create shortened names for denjuu next update, until we get some asm help at least, because it is just going to create renaming issues and looks really ugly.

Maybe I can try and find a way to control name length, but the font needs a major reduction in width in order to fit up to 12 characters on the screen.

Nice, I'll check it out when I have the chance. By the way, before I download it, what did you do with Smoke? Did you leave it as Fog or did you come with another word?

Also, someone still needs to do a text dump and do more translating. Preferably the text said by people in Toronko Village.

I pretty much just left it as fog. Though there are three status effects that are untranslated.

The personalities were a pain to get in the correct order though. I had to use the text table to convert name hex values to Japanese text, then I had to compare it with the translations and apply my 8 character variations of those back into the rom. Though I forgot to test it.

Well, from the date of the last post in here, it has obviously been a while since any progress was made.

I was just wondering if we can kickstart this back into life and get back into the swing of things!

Is anybody still working on anything? Perhaps we could make a start on translating the NPCs in Toronko village at least???!!!:D

O.. Okay!! D: *works works*

Graah, I really need to sit down and finish something...*sigh* But uh, could someone edit the translation I posted for the battle text to show what exactly is in the patch right now? That would just make it extremely easier to keep track of... *nod*

Hell yeah! I'll dust off my hex editor and get to it as soon as I can.

We don't really have enough people here to afford that luxury.

I could throw together a log of updates to the patch if you want. We could make a new thread for it so that future changes to the patch can be posted there.

(I reckon the complete final patch will be v87  )

Yeak Kimbles that's a good idea. If you want, I could give a list of text in battle that is not yet translated in v15 (the latest patch).

We could start here I guess!

Translating the status page would be good! However, what I don't understand is that although all the japanese characters in the font have been replaced, we still have the 'stat's descriptions' and 'type' test in japanese. Are these saved as tiles? If so then where? A search in a tile editor gave nothing for me :(

Yeah, they're saved separately for some reason.. a while back I was fiddling with the bootleg's translation, and attempting to change those affected others iirc.. hard to explain what I mean, like.. the stat names weren't listed as 5 separate words, more like they were spliced together out of a few letter sets? Er, does that even make sense x_x So changing one set affected the other words that used it..

^On top of that, I think the tiles that are still Japanese are compressed as well. And nobody knows how to decompress them! (Why they compressed them in the first place is beyond me, especially when the ROM has lots of unused space...)

To solve the first problem, though: if someone ever figures out how to decompress the tiles, then splicing the letters shouldn't be too much of a problem. A lot of the stat names share the same letters. Like the Denma stats: They both have the word "Denma" in them. Defense has three e's, Attack has two t's, and so on, so that's not too much of an issue...

Aargh! Well the bootleggers somehow did it didn't they...

Why not just have them as text? We'll think of somethink I expect. Incidentally, how does one go about decompressing tiles in the first place?
