Yes, it's true. I have an actual copy of Telefang Power now. Here's a picture for proof:

Image

It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but since the seller was (unsurprisingly) in Japan, it took many weeks to ship. And I finally got it today!

And yes, it's the real thing. Definitely not the fake Diamond game (I'd never get that in a million years), and not a counterfeit, which is a problem with many GBA games (mostly Pokémon and Super Mario Advance 4 for some reason). So yeah, it's pretty cool that I have it. This also means that it's in Japanese, which I don't understand, but since I've played it before, I know where to go and what to do.

And since it's authentic, it can save! That's a really good thing on a cartridge, where you don't have access to save states.

And the game is in really good condition. The cartridge has very few scratches, almost no dust, and the box looks new, other than a small dent on the top-right. The game is almost like it's new.

One concern, though, is that since the game runs on a clock, it'll have the same battery issues as Pokémon G/S/C. That means in a few years, the save data will run out, and I won't be able to save unless I somehow replace the battery (which I hear is cumbersome). Oh well. At least it works now.

Oh, and it also came with the antenna gimmick and even the manual (not that it would help me that much). Nice. Only thing is that it was designed for the GBC in mind, so when I stick it in my GBA SP, it looks kinda weird and I can't see it very well.

This is the second Japanese game I've ever imported -- the first one I got was the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels) for Game Boy Advance about four years ago, in a nice yellow cartridge (this was before the Wii ever existed). That's my favorite Mario game. I'll talk about that game some other time though.

I don't have any plans at the moment to get Telefang 2, though... partly because it's really hard to find...

And I just beat Nejiro, if anybody's curious.

Thanks to you both! :)

The antenna simply flashes when someone calls you. That's it. You plug it in the same slot as the link cable.

But like I said, it doesn't fit as well in the GBA SP. Mainly because it's obstructed by the top half of the Game Boy, so you can't see much of the light.

Here is what it looks like from the side:

Image

Out of all the pictures I took, this one above gives you the most accurate idea of how bright the light is. It's easily visible.

Now here's one from the front:

Image

You can just barely see the light, through the right side of the hinge. Though, you can see it better when you're actually playing than what this picture may make you think. This is because it blinks, so it's still somewhat visible.

Now a top-down view:

And finally, a back view. You can see that the light makes the R button slightly harder to press (though it's still possible), not that it matters in a GBC game.

Here is what it looks like on the Game Boy Color, which is what it intended to be used on:

As you can see, it looks more like a phone.

Oh and by the way, I'm about to fight Kai for the first time.

EDIT: Also, no 24 hour bug! On VisualBoyAdvance, if you played at midnight, the hour would be 24 instead of 00, and that would cause the overworld to become all white for an hour. (It also had problems with Pokémon too, but not as bad.) Not on a real Game Boy!

I grayed out everything except the clock so you can see what I mean.

Aw man, now I don't feel so special anymore. XD
At least I have Speed version. Fungusy goodness.

Sadly, I've never actually played through the entire bootleg, and my Japanese is pretty much limited to katakana, so I'm a bit lost in it.

This inspires me to start playing again though. :)
