I figure I should put the shoutbox discussion here.

No problem. Bad news, reverting the title screen change (I sure took my time...) didn't help the freeze when somebody calls you in battle. It isn't a problem with the text string either, as they are the same from the previous version...

Sanky Mar 29 2010, 08:23 PM
I probably managed to corrupt the sound effect itself. Though it plays fine in the sound test. Argh... Does anyone know the format of an IPS patch ?

Sanky Mar 29 2010, 09:04 PM
I compared all the differences between V32 and V34 of the patch, and reverted all the changes expect for text, and the problem perists... I checked for changes within the text larger then 1 byte, but found none. How the ... did I break it ? D;

1. Have you tested for occurances of the bug in v32?

andwhyisit Mar 30 2010, 11:42 AM
2. Have you tried reappling the changes to v32 and testing after each step?

Sanky Mar 30 2010, 06:45 PM
1. I can confirm that the glitch is present in v32. Guess I didn't notice it before, because I didn't start a new game. :(

andwhyisit Mar 30 2010, 09:24 PM
List of differences between v30 and v32? I want to see if I can fix it.

Sanky Mar 30 2010, 06:50 PM
I can also confirm that the glitch is not present in v30. Conclusion: It's a glitch introduced with the variable width font hack. Therefore, it's not my fault. Whew.

Also it might be best to move this discussion to the translation topic.

For ROM comparison, I use WindHex, it has it as a feature.

I don't understand anything about ROM hacking, but calling for my little knowing about programming... if the bug appears when you recieve a call for battle, shouldn't it be related to the in-battle scripting? You said something about fonts... maybe the one who changed the fonts forgot to configure something in the in-battle scenes. I think you should already know this, but I try to help instead.

(Notice my English is not very good. I'm from Argentina  )

Yes, the glitch is probably related to the variable-width font hack. Mailas did it, we should probably go ask him if he's able to fix it...

Thanks, but I hardly contributed to the patch... A few simple graphical and text edits hardly count!
You should thank Andwhyisit, Blaziken257, Kimbles and Malias, without whom this patch wouldn't get nearly as far...

Hello,

i just registered because i remembered i have played that game when i was a little kid, i just googled and stuff for like 4hours and got a lot of information.
i searched for a good english patch (because the diamond patch is.. well shit :D) and i got to this forum and this thread.
First of all i really want to thank you for that forum and for your work overall!

But since i cant get clear answers in the forums here i just wanted to ask straight away.
How much is translated in that patch? Is it playable like this or will i miss a lot ?

Is the version in the Telewiki the newest one? (34)
How exactly do i patch my rom? I patched it with "IPSWin" but its still ALL in japanese.
And is this only for the Power version or also for the Speed version?

Lots of gratitude for any answers.

Best regards!

The story is translated up to the second village, that is, Kurinon Village. Battle text is all in English.
You'll definitely understand the translated story, but that's all, it might be better to play the bootleg after that to get the overall idea of where to go...

Yes, version 34 is th newest one.

Lunar IPS is a pretty good patching program. You can also just soft-patch in VisualBoyAdvance by renaming the patch the same name as the ROM and enabling automatic IPS patching in the options.

Only the Power version is supported for now.

Okay thanks, I got it now.

But my Menu is still japanese tho, is that normal?

And i just get some crazy Letters when i talk to the guys in the shops o,o
Thanks a lot for your work so far tho!

I would have one question more, can i just play the japanese version with your patch and switch to the bootleg after the second village?

As for the menu, it's in Japanese because nobody had gotten around to translating anything there yet. Translating that text is more of a pain in the neck than other text, because it's compressed and takes more work to do that. It will be done eventually though.

As for crazy letters, that means that nobody has translated that yet. The English patch uses a different character set (i.e. it uses the English alphabet instead of Japanese kana), so you'll be seeing that a LOT for now.

And you WOULD be able to transfer the save file from the patch to the bootleg if the bootleg didn't crash every time you tried to load a save file. There is a workaround to this problem by using save states instead, but it's complicated and involves using a hex editor to change the header data of one of the ROMs (since the bootleg uses a different header from the Japanese version for some reason, which causes problems with save states). I'll explain it in greater detail later. Oh, and even when it works, the nicknames will be messed up since the bootleg and the English patch use different character tables.
