I heard that the diamond rom circulating the internet is a bad dump (not to say that the cart version isn't as bad). I think you can get the carts to save if you replace the internal battery. No way of knowing if this is true though.

My way of saving my silver version was to reset the time (so that it doesn't drain the internal battery) and leave it turned off. I hope that I can find a way to extract the save data, replace the battery, aaaand load the save data back. All while dumping all of my gameboy carts to rom format so that I can actually legally own some of my roms for once. (apparently the only way to legally own a rom is to dump it yourself)
